Systems Engineer

Engineering - Chantilly, VA - Full Time

As a Systems Engineer you will manage and execute Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) activities on the program. You will coordinate and provide technical support, determine and communicate program objectives and strategies for their accomplishment with both the implementation team, and with program and functional leadership, and ensures project technical, performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements are met. This will incorporate: ​

  • Active engagement with the program contributors to not only discover issues but drive them to closure.
  • Interactions will span both technical management of new development activities, interfaces with existing systems and infrastructure, and many variants in between.
  • Primary technical responsibility for overall system level technical specification and overall system level compliance test/verification.

Responsibilities:

  • Implements and manages project plans, assesses project risk areas, and monitors and controls budgets and schedules, reporting on technical, cost, and schedule status.
  • Implements and manages processes and tools to identify program issues, assess impacts, formulate action plans and track to resolution (including both internal and external teams/organizations.
  • Coordinates internal and external resources ensuring all project obligations and objectives are met with regard to engineering the system’s requirements, achieving an optimal systems architecture within the constraints of the program, ensuring that the specialty areas including reliability, testability, safety, and human factors, are adequately considered and balanced in design decisions. 
  • Performs requirements analysis and derivation, performance prediction, allocation of system-level requirements to lower level requirements, and requirements management
  • Executes System Integration including design integration, Simulation Emulation Stimulation (SES), HW/SW integration, Regression testing, and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) testing
  • Performs Systems Test from development through final acceptance– Verifying that the system meets its requirements, and validating that the system performs in accordance with the customer/user expectations
  • Identifies and controls KPPs, TPMs, SWAP-C and other system metrics as required.
  • Maintains Configuration Management. Attends the Change Control Board (CCB)
  • Prepares and presents briefings to management and customers relative to area of expertise and responsibility
  • Supports and participates in reviews including peer reviews, technical/design reviews, and program reviews
  • Supports proposal efforts

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline   
  • 5 years experience as a Project Manager on US Government programs delivering or managing high-complexity systems
  • Outstanding teamwork and communications skills
  • Proven ability to deliver on-time, on-budget
  • Existing security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, or other technical field
  • Concept-to-launch experience with space missions
  • Experience with budget-constrained space programs
  • Good spacecraft knowledge at the subsystem level
  • Experience with less traditional large prime contractors
  • Experience with Department of Defense customers (e.g., USAF Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC)/Navy PEO Space Systems/U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command)
  • Familiarity with Government or commercial project management/aerospace acquisitions processes (e.g., DAWIA or APDP Level 2)
  • Existing TS/SCI security clearance
